About Acoustics

Sound is a very good servant, but a very bad master. It is necessary for communication, for signalling danger, but it may also provide enjoyable experiences, e.g. music. However, as soon as it exceeds a certain level, it becomes unpleasant and disturbing. Long-term exposure to a high level of noise, causes psychological problems and if the noise level exceeds 130 dB it even causes physical pain that can lead to permanent hearing impairment.

These facts should be taken into account and sound should in no case be disturbing.  It is important to consider this danger during the first design work, regardless of whether we are dealing with a building or machine. Using a suitable structure may significantly decrease the level of noise and it usually represents a much more effective and cheaper solution than taking additional measures after the building or the structure is completed.
